The Challenge

The Global Banking Group, operating in both the Retail and Wholesale markets with over 240,000 employees, were embarking on a major Organisation Simplification across their Global operation. The bank asked Q5 to be their Organisation Design partners, bringing a very experienced team to rapidly stand up an organisation-wide capability that could deliver in a short time frame, to a very high standard.

Our Approach

  • Defined a simple, consistent methodology, based on our Q5 MetroMap process and tailored to specific needs.
  • Defined and ran an Organisation Design Authority (ODA) to sign off the Target Operating Model and top-level designs across the organisation.
  • Created Design Environment ‘pods’ to support each area of the business, providing data and rigorous OD support directed to the design teams.
  • Proactively identified key Org Design opportunities for further Organisation Simplification to support the agenda (i.e. establishing Market Archetypes)

Key Outcomes

  • Top level designs delivered on time and to quality across the Bank, meeting a key target Upskilled the HR community, by providing insight and coaching to teams supporting design work
  • Developed a 3 years OD Strategy for the Bank to mature its capability and deliver the benefits from good OD
  • Delivered a pilot to overhaul the job catalogue for the Bank, resulting in a programme to align the job catalogue to the new Operating Model
  • Supported the use of new people analytics tech, by using it to provide key insights to the Annual Planning process and for Org Health evaluation
