James is a Senior Principal with nearly twenty years’ consulting and industry experience. Since joining Q5 in 2018, he has worked across a wide range of sectors, with a particular focus on technology, data, digital and commercial work.
He helps clients answer questions that sound simple but rarely are: who should make this decision, what should this team be responsible for, why is this process harder than it needs to be, and what would make teams work better in practice?
Before becoming a consultant, James was Director of Operations at a publishing house, where he saw organisational change from the inside: leading teams, improving systems, making practical trade-offs and dealing with the everyday realities of getting work done. That gave him a lasting interest in the gap between how organisations are drawn on paper and what working in them day to day actually feels like.
James is also completing a PhD in Philosophy, focused on meaningful work and its role in our lives. So he thinks about work quite a lot. When not thinking about work, and not working out, he is usually reading, taking photographs, or enjoying a beer.
