Isla Mackenzie

Isla is a Consultant with a passion for optimising efficiency using creative problem-solving.

Prior to joining Q5, Isla worked in Russia and Costa Rica as an educator. Her role developed into working in a business development position. Having found her passion for helping businesses grow, Isla began working on small projects for non-profits and founded a branch of a student-led consultancy branch (180 Degrees Consulting SOAS). These projects focused on organisational design, marketing, and business development.

Isla graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a MA in Russian Studies and Politics. From this degree, Isla researched issues pertaining to climate change, public policy, Middle Eastern, and African politics. Isla’s undergraduate degree ignited a passion for sustainability and led Isla to pursue an MSc in Global Energy and Climate Policy at SOAS University of London part-time distance learning. Isla is still working on her master’s and hopes to graduate in October 2021 with a dissertation topic focused on Saudi Arabia and Russia’s relationship with climate change.

Since joining Q5 in April 2021, Isla has worked on a number of projects, with a focus on Organisation Design and project management. Previous clients include Balfour Beatty Highways, BSI (British Standards Institute), Royal BAM, and the NHS. Isla has also helped with the development of think pieces, assisted with proposal development and is actively contributing to developing Q5’s ESG internal capability.

Outside of work, Isla spends her time playing the fiddle, painting and trying to finish her master’s degree (with every spare minute she has!). Isla spends most of her weekends exploring different parts of London as she is new to the city.
