The Challenge

One of Australasia’s largest technology providers was undergoing an enterprise-wide transformation to simplify and enhance its market approach. As part of this, the organisation was implementing a new matrix operating model and restructuring its Group Leadership Team (GLT).

To support this transition, they engaged Q5 to help finalise outstanding operating model decisions while ensuring their senior leaders had the right organisational designs to enable the transformation effectively.

Our Approach

  • Established Organisational Design (OD) workstreams for key business areas, including geography-aligned sales functions, technology and services divisions, and central marketing.
  • Engaged key stakeholders in each workstream to develop designs, including team purpose statements, charters, organisation structures, role profiles, and RACI frameworks.
  • Provided expert guidance to ensure organisational structures balanced cost objectives with future growth ambitions.
  • Facilitated cross-functional alignment to ensure consistency in the new matrix structure.
  • Monitored progress, risks, and opportunities, reporting to the transformation programme board and leadership team.
  • Led leadership alignment sessions, enabling decision-making and approval of the new structures.

Key Outcomes

  • Delivered detailed organisational designs for each senior leader, supporting the implementation of the new operating model.
  • Developed costed team structures, charters, and role profiles across all key business areas – including 15 new structures and 78 role profiles.
  • Improved role clarity within teams and across functions.
  • Facilitated cross-functional alignment workshops on key matrix topics such as Pre-Sales, Customer Delivery, and Quality Assurance.
  • Partnered with the People & Change function to support the successful implementation of the new designs.
