The Challenge

Digital Audio was emerging as a key pillar of Southern Cross Austereo’s (SCA) future growth. A Digital Audio Strategy had been defined which set out a direction to create a profitable platform to deliver premium digital audio content, and an ambition to increase the revenue. SCA needed to refine this vision and create a model for how the organisation could practically and sustainably deliver the Digital Audio Strategy.

Our Approach

We partnered with SCA to lead a highly collaborative design approach that brought together key stakeholders from across the business to design a Digital Audio operating model over a five week timeframe. The project covered three steps:

  • Understand Current State – We examined the current state of the organisation, including what was working well and where there were opportunities to change through the Design work. We conducted some additional analysis of the strategic context to develop and build on the case for change.
  • Future State Definition – We built a view of the organisations future Digital Audio aspirations, including desired audience & advertiser experiences & content requirements. We defined the principles with which to inform and guide the design of the future operating model.
  • Future State Design – We defined the activities needed to deliver the strategy and explored different concepts to build out, test & iterate a future operating model for both Content & Sales.

Key Outcomes

  • Clearly linked to and also tested the strategic direction
  • Focused on the key elements of integration and aligning resources to where the most value was
  • Included a new analytics function to support the business
  • Owned and presented by the business NOT to the business. The result was SCA’s not Q5’s which is something we believe is critical to adoption of any change.
