The Challenge

Based on the ask of the Mozambique president, there was a desire to set up a National Petroleum programme supporting Mozambiquans to develop the energy capabilities and skills required for the country’s future development.

We were brought in to support the development of a greenfield Petroleum Engineering Department and a set of customised Core & Masters in Petroleum Engineering (MSPE) Programs at the University of Eduardo Mondlane (UEM).

Our Approach

Working alongside the British Council, the university and many others we:

  • Curriculum creation: Designed, delivered and knowledge transferred virtual and physical delivery of 4 core courses, 8 technical courses, 24 seminars, math fundamentals program, and English language program.
  • Student selection: Agreement on criteria; outsourced function to MPC.
  • Virtual and physical classroom infrastructure: Managed construction of new facilities and virtual delivery; outsourced to MPC.
  • Creation of new department: Developed organization structure, budgetary requirements and metrics.
  • Transition of management: Training of Dept. management & lead professors; established Advisory Board for governance.

Key Outcomes

  • Set up of a university department for Petroleum Engineering.
  • Development and launch of an English two year masters programme curriculum, including a bridging programme from undergrad to post grad.

Q5 was asked to develop and facilitate a capability uplift program for the Culture Champions that equipped them to find ways to shift the daily habits/behaviours of their teams, embody the ways of working in their day-to-day roles, and improve their capabilities in supporting cultural change.
