The Challenge

McDonald’s UK and Irish supply chain had faced a series of exogenous shocks, simultaneously couple with unprecedented growth, causing issues.

The Supply Chain function required transformation to support the Operations function, in order to plan more effectively for future business challenges and provide support to its franchises.

Our Approach

  • Revised the Supply Chain’s organisational design.
  • Analysed Supply Chain’s current capacity issues, alongside the requirements of the function’s future ambitions.
  • Designed a detailed operating model and team-level organisation design.
  • Mapped key activities.
  • Introduced a distinction between ‘strategic’ and ‘operational’ work.

Key Outcomes

  • A new Supply Chain Operating Model, creating ‘Plan’; ‘Operate’ and ‘Enable’ core team distinctions and clarifying interfaces with other McDonald’s UK&I functions.
  • A revised Supply Chain high-level organisation structure, further embedding category management principles and centralising areas of key capability (such as project management).
  • An aspirational culture for both Technology and Change functions, with a roadmap of how these values will be ‘lived’.
  • Revised key processes for both the Technology and Change functions, ensuring the new design will be embedded within day-to-day ways of working.
