The Challenge

The NHS South East London Integrated Care System wished to emphasize partnership and collaboration and embed key characteristics to develop the systems leaders of the future. Q5 supported them in developing an inclusive and innovative 7-month systems leadership development programme for leaders across the health system in South East London.

Our Approach

Participants were immersed in different touch points that included:

  • Action learning projects to solve system challenges
  • Mentoring sessions
  • Site visits to other orgnisations
  • TedX style talks
  • Immersive week to strengthen their session of community

We developed modules to cover important topics for leaders including:

  • ‘My role as a systems leader’
  • ‘Connections, networks and building trust’
  • ‘Inclusive leadership: embracing change and difference’
  • ‘Collective ownership: collaboration and influence across boundaries’
  • ‘Championing change: leading and enabling innovation’

Key Outcomes

  • Developed a system leadership development programme, Collaborate, bringing together 30 emerging leaders from across the South East London Integrated Care System (SEL ICS).
  • Programme leaders felt a greater sense of self-awareness and confidence whilst recognising the value of others and what they bring to the system, enabling an inclusive, collaborative and compassionate ICS culture​
